Among the Intel competitors, the most powerful is the AMD, though AMD's power is weaker than Intel nad the condition is worse than Intel. But Sanders, the founder and director of AMD, never swerves in the struggle against Intel and let Intel feel the taste of being dragged around by the nose.Autumn Picture of

Since the launch of Intel's first microprocessor in 1971, from the Pentium series of 8086, 80286, 80386, 80486 to the Pentium Ⅱ generation of microprocessors, the Inter has been leading the new trend. How to Preserve

Intel's paying no attention to the market of the low-grade products made Intel be led by the nose to launch the simplified PentiumⅡ, the Celeron.

Now, AMD isn’t only on a par with Intel in low-end market, but desires to compete for high-end market with Intel. In 26th, February, 1999, Intel promotes Pentium Ⅲ to raise the processing ability of three-dimensional image. These features in technology were similar with the K6.3 of AMD microprocessors used for 3DNow! But its price was at least 25% cheaper. It seems that Intel is in turn again to be led by the nose.

In August, 1999, AMD launched Athlon(K.7) with a maximum frequency of 650 MHz, which was far over then Intel and became the champion for the first time.

Without Sanders successful leadership, AMD can not make it. Sanders and founders of Intel like Moore and Grove are all originally come from the semiconductor company "Fairchild". But Moore is engaged in technology, while Sanders is engaged in marketing. In 1968, Moore and others got away from Fairchild founded Intel which was known for technological innovation. In 1969, Sanders as well as other seven colleagues also left fairchild to found AMD company, and they played their marketing skills here.

Holding to the ideal, carrying courage and innovative risk-taking courage makes Sanders a young and talented leaders in Silicon Valley. He himself once said: "I was discontented young man in the past, now a discontented middle-aged man. I pursue perfection because this world is not perfect. I would like to transform this world." He said so and he did so. He always required the developed and produced products that were more advanced than the others. The other competitors of Intel often avoided the edge when he was competing with the giant. Intel is content with a small slice in the low-end market, while AMD is active to challenge Intel in the field of high-end products. K6 won AMD respect from others and truly let Intel feel threatened.

AMD obtained such results while it is in much more difficult conditions than Intel. In beginning of the company, Intel received adequate financial support, and AMD is almost starting from scratch. People joked: "Intel will raise five million dollars with just spending 5 minutes, while AMD has spent five million minutes to raise 5 dollars." We can see that the initial venture capital wasn't optimistic about AMD. The difficulties of business are sufficient to show indomitable fighting spirits of Sanders.
